Ground floor, domestic, and side rear extension

Kew Bridge

n/b:
The project was completed ahead of schedule and on budget
dates:
August 2017 - November 2017
Terms:
4 months

Setting: An artistic couple comprised of a composer and a theatre director owned this property, as the composer switched careers, they no longer had use of their in-house studio, which consisted of soundproof walls and other musically technical features that had to be demolished. The property was very close to Kew Bridge and had a lovely view of the river. However due to the original construction of the house access to natural light, especially on the ground floor was extremely limited.

Construction: The main focus of this project was to allow as much light into the property as possible. This resulted in the installation of a skylight which called for an alteration of circulation in the rear space. An interesting feature about this property was that it was a transitional space, partly indoors and partly open. Our refurbishing allowed for an effect so that when the doors were shut the space would feel as if one were exclusively indoors whereas if the doors were open it would allow for the illusion of being outdoors. This feature highlights the adaptability and originality of Kew Design build.
