Setting: The house that was to be refurbished had a design that was built for early 20thcentury living. The previous owner had made some errors when installing a bathroom addition so we had to break away from conventional 20th century design due to the client’s preference for 21st century architectural aesthetics. The couple were a newly wed who were expecting, the child was born halfway through the refurbishing process and as such we had to adapt our procedures in order to provide a level of safety for the couple and their new-born
Construction: The primary aspect of the process was the extension of the house in order to turn a house with a tiny kitchen into one with plenty of room. The house was extended and a merged kitchen with an informal living space were created, separate from the living room. The secondary feature was feature of the refurbishing was the large amount of fenestration to allow for lots of natural light. By the time the refurbishments were complete the house now had a dining room, a formal front room, a sitting room and a separate formal dining room with half of the house extending to the kitchen and additional living space. Furthermore, a downstairs cloakroom and utility room were added for the sake of maximum utility.
