Eel Pie Island

Setting: The location of this property is rather unique as it is found on an island in the middle of the Thames at Twickenham. It is special as it has a clear view of the diverse river wildlife, a daily experience of the ebb and flow of the tide and all the human activity enjoying the river.

Construction: The main challenge on this project lay in how to adapt the alterations to best take advantage of the vistas. This is an aspect that KD/B is highly proficient in; creating adaptable designs that integrate the positive aspects of the surroundings on which projects are founded.

In addition to extending upwards with the construction of a second floor, a complete refurbishment of the property was undertaken including a small GF extension boasting curved folding sliding doors. Alterations at the first floor level helped create a utility/laundry room closer to where it is needed as opposed to the ground floor level where it is found traditionally. The removal of a partition at the ground floor level opened up the space allowing unobstructed views of the outside from anywhere inside. A new bespoke kitchen with copper and zinc-clad cabinet doors transformed the kitchen area creating a beautiful centrepiece to space.
